What? Two different Mother’s days?

Here in Japan, and in many other countries around the world, today is Mother’s Day. Although I am spending the day alone, working in my office, my 16-year-old son has promised to make me pizza for dinner. How are you all spending the day?
As you may know, although I have been in Japan for over half of my life, I am originally from the UK. Did you know that in the UK, Mother’s Day is actually held on a different day every year. This year it was March 6th. This is because, like Easter, it is a moveable feast. Every year, Mother’s Day (or Mothering Sunday) is held on the 4th Sunday of Lent, exactly 3 weeks before Easter. For those who like to be well-prepared, next year it will fall on the 26th of March. Being away from the UK, I have a tendency to forget, so maybe I should make a note of it right now!

Happy Mother’s Day.
