Recently my daughter described her family as ‘crackers’, an English colloquial term that means slightly ‘crazy’…but in a good way. 最近うちの娘は家族のこと（母の私を含む）を’crackers’ と名付けました。’Crackers’（クラッカー）は愚かなことを意味します。。。でもいい意味で！Got me to thinking of other words we use in English to talk about people who are a little ‘silly’.それで、私は同じ意味を持つほかの英語の言葉を考えて見ました。 One word that has been used in the last 50 years or so is the word ‘bananas’ as in, ‘He’s completely bananas!’ たくさんがありますが、この50年ぐらい前からよく使われるよう になったのは‛彼がバナナ’だ！え？バナナ？ 例えば ’He’s completely bananas.’ 彼は本当にバカだな。。。でも面白いだなぁと言う意味で。Apparently the origins of this usage are unknown, but it’s a fun one to use without being insulting! この使え方の語根は不明ですが、それは侮辱ではないです。あるいは、少しほめ言葉？Anyway, I’ve been ‘going bananas’ in my kitchen this week with this fantastic banana cake. とにかく、日本語で上手く言えませんが、今週のケーキはこのテーマに応じて、バナナケーキです！There are 2 bananas in the sponge and another in the filling. 生地にバナナ2本、フィリングにバナナ１本が入っています。During these hot summer months when bananas easily ‘turn’, it’s a tasty way of using them up. 暑い夏の間だって、バナナがすぐに色が悪くなりますね。このレシピなら、簡単にそのバナナでも使いこなせる。 Cool the cake in the fridge for an extra refreshing, but yummy afternoon treat. 冷蔵庫で冷やしてから食べるとさらに美味しくなります。ぜひ試してください。Check out the recipe.
