So, the other day, I went to the British Fair at the Hankyu Department Store in Umeda, Osaka. この間、大阪、梅田にある阪急百貨店の英国フェアへ行って来ました。I’ve now lived in Japan for 27 years, which is 5 years longer than I lived in Britain, my country of birth. 今になって、27年間日本に住んでいる私ですが、実はそれは生まれ育ったイギリスより長い期間です。Every day, I speak Japanese, I cook Japanese food, I live in a Japanese house and am pretty much at home here.毎日日本語で喋りますし、日本料理を作ったり、日本の家に住んだり、たまに日本人より日本人らしいと言われたりします。 And yet, the longer I am away from my original ‘home’, the more I feel a need to stay connected. なのに、自分の生まれ育った国から離れている期間が長くなるほど懐かしく感じます。Some of the things that I purchased at the fair, such as the jam, teas and clotted cream, I’ll be sharing with my students.英国フェアで買ったものの中に、ジャム、紅茶、クロテッドクリームなどを生徒さんと一緒に頂きたいと思っていますが。。 The fish and chips were all for me! とても美味しかったフィッシュ＆チップスを独り占めにしました！ I also found some pretty impressive silver cleaner which left my grandma’s silver spoon shining as new. そして小さな店で見つけったシルバーポリッシュスプレーを利用して、亡くなったお祖母ちゃんから頂いたシルバースプーンをピカピカに磨けました。It was a good day all round. 本当に満足した一日でした。
