After the excitement of helping a friend celebrate her 50th birthday over the weekend, it’s been back to business as usual at White Rose this week. 先週末、お友達の50歳の誕生日パーティーにとても楽しく参加をさせて頂いて、今週から再びホワイトローズでバリバリ頑張りました。Except for problems with my wifi internet connection and the last few hectic weeks catching up on me in the form of a stye developing inside the eyelid of my right eye, it’s all been good! wi-fi の接続が悪かったし、最近少し頑張りすぎたせいで右目のまぶたにめばちこも出来てしまったけど、今週も楽しく仕事をさせて頂きました。My lesson schedule is beginning to fill up and with courses up and running for all age groups, there’s something for everyone and of course, there’s always cake!　レッスンスケジュールも少しずつ出来あげています。小学生コースから大人のレッスンまであり、ホワイトローズでは、どんな方でも英語を楽しむ ことが出来ます。そして、もちろんケーキもあります。　All lessons are ‘served’ with coffee or tea, so why not join us for a cuppa? どんなレッスンでもコーヒー、紅茶付きとさせて頂きます。ぜひ遊びに来てください。White Rose で、英語を好きになりましょう！

This week, amidst all the excitement of new classes starting at White Rose CCC, it’s been ‘baking’ business as usual.今週、ホワイトローズシシシとしての新スタートで、ドキドキワクワクしながら日々をすごしましたが、通常どおりケーキ作りにもがんばりまし た。New students attending Tuesday’s Afternoon Tea class were introduced to the delights of a traditional Victoria Sandwich cake.火曜日の新しいアフタヌーンティーレッスンに参加してくれた生徒たちと一緒にイギリスの定番のビクトリアサンドウィッチ ケーキを頂きました。 During classes on Thursday and Friday at the Mozu classroom, we had some fancily-decorated lemon cupcakes.木曜 日、金曜日百舌鳥教室で行われたレッスンでは、少し派手に飾り付けられたレモンカップケーキを楽しみました。 Both were washed down with cups of ‘this week’s tea’: English breakfast, the most common form of tea in British tea culture. 「今週の紅茶」として、イングリッシュ・ブレックファスト・ティを選びました。イギリスの伝統的な紅茶のブレンドでもあり、紅茶文化の一般的で人気のある ブレンドの1つでもあります。Both recipes can be found on the school’s website at the link below.

People say that the secret to success is a lot of hard work and a little luck. I would also say that the support of those around us plays no small role. This week, exhausted from all the preparations but excited to set out on an new adventure, I have also been filled with gratitude on a daily basis. I am thankful to the three brand new students who started this week and who said that ‘of course’ they would be coming again next week. I truly appreciate all the best wishes and votes of confidence received from friends and family all over the world. I am so lucky to have met the lady who offered me a classroom to teach in on my days away from Kishiwada. I can’t believe that one of my students is willing to drive over an hour from Osaka city to attend my lessons. And, it made my day yesterday when one of the most recent additions to the White Rose family told me that our lesson is the thing that she most looks forward to every week.
White Rose is a small one-woman business. I won’t always get it right. Things won’t always be perfect. But with your help, I will always do my best.

Friends and family back in the UK are on ‘Easter Holiday’ this weekend. However, here in Japan, although many celebrate the fun of Christmas, other than the Christian community, most are unaware of the significance of Easter. Yet, if you look around, you can find a small selection of Easter decorations at the 100 yen store, some import stores stock mini chocolate eggs or bunnies, and Disneyland often hosts an Easter parade. 今日からイギリスにいるお友達や家族がイースターのため、4連休を楽しんでいます。しかしながら、日本ではクリス マスがとても大きなイベントとなっているに関わらず、クリスチャンのコミュニティ除いては、イースターのことについてはほとんど知識がないようです。　し かし、100円の店ではイースター用の飾るものが売られているし、輸入食品店ではミニチョコエッグを見つけることができますし、ディズニーランドではイー スターパレードなどが行われることもあります。実はイースターとは‘復活祭’と言う意味を持つ、十字架にかけられて死んだイエス・キリストが三日目に復活 したことを記念する、キリスト教において最も重要な祭です。As Easter is always celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal equinox, each year, it is a ‘moveable feast’ falling any time between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April. 基本的に「春分の日の後の最初の満月の次の日曜日」に祝われるため、年によって日付が変わる移動祝日である(3月22日～4月25日の間). This year, Easter falls on March 27th, with the holiday beginning today, on Good Friday. 今年はイースターは3月27日に祝われる,そして今日の聖金曜日から4連休が始まる。
To celebrate, I whipped up some rather tasty Easter biscuits. と言うことはイースターの祝いに、この美味しいイースたービスケットを作って見ました。If you can’t find currants, raisins work just as well. And feel free to mix up the spices to your own tastes. I gave my biscuits a hint of ginger and nutmeg. カランとがない場合、レーズンでも大丈夫ですし、味つけに好きなスパイスを使えば良い！私が作ったビスケットは生姜パウダーとナツメグで仕上げました。 Happy Easter everyone.

Life is full of firsts and today I made my first appearance on a local radio programme. Thank you Jenny for inviting me to come in to talk about my country, my love of baking and my Afternoon Tea lessons. I had so much fun chatting to you and Dipendra. Next time I visit, I promise to bake some cakes!
今日は初めてラジオ番組に出させて頂きました。番組に紹介して頂いた、パーソナリティのJennyさんとレギュラーメンバーのDipendraさんとイギ リス、ケーキ作り、そしてWhite Roseのアフタヌーンティーレッスンについておしゃべりしました。とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。本当にありがとうございます。今度、ケーキを作って 行きますね。

Hello everyone. It’s been a while! Sincere apologies for my absence on here over the past week.　皆様、こんにちは。お久しぶりです。一週間以上前からブログを更新しなくて、本当に申し訳ありません。In the build up to the opening of my Kishiwada school on April 1st, I have at times felt like I have been taking three steps forward, two steps back!　岸和田教室の4月１日オープンに向けて、一生懸命頑張っていますが、たまには三歩を進んで二歩後退。。と言う感じです！This week, amongst other things, I got side-tracked by some lengthy trips to the hospital with my daughter, who at the age of 18, managed to break a bone for the first time in her life. 今週、色々な出来事の中、１８歳の娘は人生初の骨折のために長い時間を病院で過ごしました。It’s all been a bit tiring to be honest! And when you are feeling tired, there is only one solution: chocolate!正直に言うと疲れた！こう言う時に出来るのが一つしかない：チョコレートを食べる！So, this week I am introducing you to a simple, quick fix to all of those blues: Rocky Road Crunch bars. なので、今週皆様にロッキロードクランッチバーを紹介したいです。簡単なレシピで、皆様の疲れを間違いなく飛ばせてくれる！If you are finding the road a little rocky, why not try some of this sweet Rocky road. Wow. What a week this has been. うわーっ！今週、本当にバタバタしていました。My son was sick from another bad migraine. Lots of things in and around our house broke. And, most importantly, my daughter graduated from High School. 息子がまたひどい編頭痛になり、学校にお迎えをお願いされ；家のあちらこちらの物が突然に壊れ；そして娘の高校卒業式がありました。Nobody can say that my life is boring.　退屈する暇がないですね！Luckily, I’m never too tired to bake and this week’s offering is a favourite amongst my students: lemon drizzle cake.I just love the delicate lemon flavour of the cake, moistened after baking with a tangy, sweet and sour syrup made from sugar and lemon juice. Yum! しかし、ケーキ作りで気持ちが落ち着きます。今週のお菓子は生徒の中にとても人気があるレモンドリズルケーキです。英語ではドリズル’drizzle’は 霧雨と言う意味でもあります。料理では、上から液体なものを振り掛ける。焼き立てのレモンケーキの上に甘酸っぱいレモン汁と砂糖から作られているシロップ を振り掛ける。最高に美味しいですよ！

今日はWhite Rose C.C.C として、初めてのビラ配りに行ってきました！良い運動になりました。今回、アフタヌーンティーレッスンを紹介しました。そうです。。。現在の生徒さんの中でとても人気があるこのレッスンを４月から地元である岸和田市で開始いたします！
‘アフタヌーンティー’とはどんな方でも気楽に参加できる、とてもユニークな英語のレッスンです。堅苦しくなく、リラックスして自分のペースで自分の学び たい時に勉強できます。レッスンの最後にイギリス人である講師の私の手作りお菓子と美味しい紅茶を頂きながら、文化交流を楽しめます。英語オンリーのレッ スンではないので、初心者の方でも充分に海外文化に触れることが出来ます。もちろん、入学金や教材代を頂きません。紅茶、お菓子そしてレシピーカードを含 む、月謝はとてもリーズナブルな￥10,000とさせて頂きます。

Today was a new milestone for White Rose C.C.C. Posting our first ever fliers around the neighbourhood killed two birds with one stone: I got to introduce everyone to my ‘Afternoon Tea’ lesson and got some exercise at the same time. Yes, that’s right…one of my most popular classes is coming to Kishiwada from April this year!
Our Afternoon Tea classes are a unique way for students of any level to enjoy English without the pressures that come with a more rigid form of learning. Students can relax and learn at their own pace. At the end of each lesson they get to sample my home-made cakes over a cup of English tea and chat about this and that. Unlike many other courses, the classes are not strictly ‘English-only’ which means that even absolute beginners can enjoy simple cultural exchange. With no extra costs, the classes come in at a very reasonable ￥10,000 a month, which includes tea, cake and a take-home recipe card.
So, citizens of Kishiwada, how about joining your friends for a cup of tea and some simple English conversation?

It’s been another busy week. Time to put up my feet with a lovely cup of tea and a flapjack, a tasty, but healthy snack. 今週もバタバタしていました。紅茶を飲んで、美味しいお菓子を食べて、少し休憩をしましょう。This week’s treat is a traditional Scottish snack made from oatmeal and comes with a caramel sweetness! Flapjacks are also one of my dad’s favourites. In Japan, it can be hard to get hold of the golden syrup traditionally used in the recipe, but I managed to find some on Amazon. If not, you could try making it with honey or maple syrup or a Japanese equivalent (mizu ame).
スコットランドの家庭のお菓子です。キャラメルのような香ばしい甘さが、なんともおいしいです。シリアルを使っているので、栄養の面でもうれしいお菓子で す。ちなみに、父の大好物でもあります。ゴールデンシロップが手に入らない場合は（アマゾンで販売している時があります）、麦芽の水あめが近い味のような 気がします。はちみつやメープルシロップでもおいしいと思います。
